Department for International Trade Defence and Security Organisation (DIT DSO)
DIT DSO provides the essential government-to-government dimension to help the UK defence and security industry to build and maintain relationships with overseas customers. They provide support to industry to ensure products and services are promoted in an effective manner to meet the customer’s requirements and are supported by industry throughout the life of the equipment.
DIT DSO provides specialist export advice and practical assistance, working closely with industry and the Ministry of Defence, Home Office and with other Government Departments and Agencies.
DIT DSO has three Regional Directorates staffed by experts on specific countries or geographic areas who are the first point of contact for overseas customers and for UK companies. They lead on all aspects of the export of defence and security equipment and services to the countries for which they are responsible, and they support specific industry-led overseas marketing campaigns.
Within DIT DSO is a dedicated Cyber Security exports team, with combined experience in cyber security from the defence, financial services, intelligence, energy and private sectors. The Cyber Security exports team works closely with industry through the Cyber Growth Partnership to develop targeted campaign plans in priority markets, as well as providing companies with support on individual export opportunities.
The Operations Directorate manages events and exhibitions, undertakes market analysis, support for SME and MSB companies and provides key account management for a number of major UK defence and security manufacturers. The Operations Directorate works in conjunction with the other directorates to help DIT DSO deliver efficient and effective services to industry.
A unique resource available to UK industry, within DIT DSO is the Export Support Team (EST). Comprising of regular officers and soldiers of the British Army, who collectively possess a wealth of knowledge and experience both in training and on operations. EST services include support at events and exhibitions, impartial military advice, assistance with promotional material through participation in photographic and video shoots, demonstrations and presentations, visit hosting and after sales training and support.
DIT DSO works with the UK regional International Trade Advisors (ITAs) who advise UK companies on exporting and help them use all DIT DSO services including in-country specialists. DIT DSO also engages closely with industry bodies and trade associations to help the industry.
