The Future Borders & Immigration System is at the heart of improvements to the UK’s legal migration system, underpinning the UK Government’s ambition to create a world leading border and migration system.

Our vision is to transform the UK Border, making visible changes to security, flow and passenger experience to the UK for most passengers across all modes of transport, at all ports.

We have introduced an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) as part of our Universal Permission to Travel concept allowing us to know more about those who intend to come to the UK in advance of travel.

Increasing use of automation will allow better flow management and improved customer service.

We will take advantage of increased intelligence and risk-based targeting to identify those travellers who require positive interventions at the border.
